This was the last of Saint-Saens symphonies and, by far, his most famous work. Unlike symphonies of the Romantic Era, this symphony has two parts instead of the normal four movements. During the second part the dominant theme of the first part returns...

"Live 2003" (11/04/2003) Rock & Pop Coldplay, Capitol/EMI RecordsIncludes a bonus DVD of a live concert, lyrics links, and a tour diary documentary. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Coldplay: Guy Berryman, Jon Buckland, Will Champion, Chris Martin. Recorded live in 2003. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. One of the few post-Radiohead Britpop bands to achieve chart-topping success in America, Coldplay follows up its lauded second outing, A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD, with this live release. Drawing largely from the aforementioned album, LIVE 2003 features frontman Chris Martin at his charismatic best, whether he's rocking out on the hard-charging opener "Politik," crooning over an acoustic guitar on "See You Soon," or manning the piano on the majestic surge of "Clocks." Martin and the lads mix things up a bit by adding atmospheric introductions to some tunes, whether it's the woozy guitar twang before "A Rush of Blood to the Head" or the dreamy keyboards prior to the supremely catchy hit "Yellow." The live set also includes two non-album originals-"One I Love" and "Moses." LIVE 2003 is a document of an earnest but entirely unpretentious rock band at the peak of its powers.

"Lovers Rock/Lovers Live [DVD & CD]" (11/25/2003) Rock & Pop Sade, Epic (USA)DVD contains Lovers Live performance. Personnel: Sade Adu (vocals); Leroy Osbourne (vocals); Stuart Matthewman (guitar, woodwinds, programming); Andy Nice (cello); Andrew Hale (keyboards, programming); Janusz Podrazik (keyboards); Paul S. Denman (bass); Karl Vanden Bossche (percussion). Recorded between September 1999 & August 2000. LOVERS ROCK won the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Examining the career of former model/fashion design student Helen Folasade Adu, it's apparent that the span between studio albums increased exponentially. Eight years after LOVE DELUXE, the original members of Sade's band regrouped and here recapture the magic of the former ensemble. The vocals on LOVERS ROCK are unmistakably sensual and enchanting. Guitarist Stuart Matthewman steers clear of the crunchy electric sound that was his signature on LOVE DELUXE, the one exception being "Somebody Already Broke My Heart," which has some tasty understated percussive palm muting in the choruses. From an instrumental perspective, LOVERS ROCK leans a bit more to the electronic side, but technology doesn't dampen the atmosphere and simple beauty of the music. Not surprisingly, the focus continues to be the sweet, often mournful melodies of a unique pop vocalist.

"Wild-Eyed Christmas Night, A" (10/22/2002) Rock & Pop .38 Special (Rock), Silverline Records.38 Special includes: Don Barnes (vocals, guitar); Bobby Capps (vocals, keyboards); Donnie Van Zant (vocals); Danny Chauncey (guitar); Larry Junstrom (bass); Scott Meeder (drums, programming); Gary Moffatt (drums). Recorded at Olivia's Castle, Atlanta, Georgia. A Wild-Eyed Christmas Night features Southern rock/arena rock band .38 Special performing a number of holiday classics. The band keeps the music fairly lighthearted and fun, most notably with songs like the title track, "Jingle Bell Rock," and "Santa Claus Is Back in Town." Anyone unfamiliar with .38 Special's music will probably find this album less than interesting, though fanatics will surely find this a pleasant listen. A little brief with only ten songs. ~ Jason Birchmeier

"The World of Nat King Cole [Remaster]" (04/05/2005) Blues Cole, Nat "King", EMI Music DistributionPersonnel: Nat King Cole (vocals, piano); Nat King Cole; Natalie Cole (vocals); George Shearing Quintet, Stan Kenton & His Orchestra. If there are radio stations in the afterlife, one thing is certain--at least one channel is eternally playing Nat "King" Cole. With his butter-rich baritone and the intimate warmth of his delivery, Cole cuts straight to the soul and through the ages. Longtime fans will likely own the songs featured here on original studio albums or previously released compilations, but THE WORLD OF NAT KING COLE skims the cream from Cole's pop career, making it an excellent place for beginners or those seeking an economical best-of set. Some of the finest cuts here are from Cole's early-1960s work with his trio. Spare, mellow, and flawlessly executed, treatments of "It's Only a Paper Moon" and "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons," among others, are enough to melt the heart on first listen. (These tunes also showcase Cole's deft touch on piano.) The remaining tracks feature Cole performing with orchestras led by luminaries Nelson Riddle, Billy May, Les Baxter, and Stan Kenton, along with other highly memorable sides, including "Mona Lisa" and two versions of "Unforgettable" (the original and the posthumous duet with daughter Natalie). Concise and well selected, this is an outstanding collection focusing on the key songs of a truly legendary singer.
